Checking what to see in Sri Lanka any website will mention Sigiriya rock, but let me tell you that there somthing else you can visit too or even instead, as we liked it much more, and is Pidurangala. Why?

  • The ticket is much cheaper.
  • From this rock you can admire Sigiriya and eeeeeeeeeeeeeverything else around it.

But let me tell you our experience in both and make you own decision.

How to get to Sigiriya area?

On this special day for my region, Castilla y Leon, (Spain) we were heading to Sigiriya from Dambulla. There always many means of transport, for different budgets and type of person. We, as good backpackers on a budget, decided to take the local bus and experience how the ‘triple take over’ works. Until yo get used to it it is a scary as fun, I definitely recomend it as we didn´t have or saw any accident in Sri Lanka, just avoid to look at the road if you don´t enjoy seeing constantly vehicules coming towards you lol

Where to stay in Sigiriya?

Something we haven´t done right is to compile all the info regarding the accomodation. The place we stayed at in Sigiriya xxxx (I need to ask Chris) was one of the best in the the 4 months I have been and the breakfast defnitely the BEST, what a banquet! For once I am not exagerating, everything you see is for 2 people!

We had booked a very cheap room in: and I will keep it short, it was awful. We arrived there and asked the guy to show us the room and this bad experience would set up a norm: since then we would always ask to see the room before paying, just in case.

Coming on the bus, we had passed many places to stay as they are all along the main road, so we check once again booking.com as it was working great for us, and picked up a place a little bit apart in a secondary road but that looked incredibly good, like our own house, and the result couldn´t be better 🙂

How to get to Pidurangala?

How to see Sigiriya?

First of all sorry for the bad quality of the pic, never buy a BQ phone 😉

To get to the ruins, quite far from our accommodation, we took a tuk-tuk, one of the few times we had done but I don´t regret at all as the driver was one of the nicest guy we met in the trip. He waited until we finished all the exploring to take us back, I would say we pay 500 but I need to confirm with Chris..

These are some of the pictures that don´t make sutice to the beauty of the place, seriously, ther views are one of the best of the whole trip, only comparable with Adam´s Peak (India) and Pokhara (Nepal), but I think I still like these one more, maybe because we didn´t expect them.
